Virtual education, a growing trend

Virtual education is closer to everyone; after the 2020 pandemic, the world changed, and there was a transition to virtuality. There are no more excuses to improve yourself, learn and undertake new academic challenges; it is a great possibility.

Let’s not tell lies; for many years, virtual education had a bad prestige; some thought that it was not demanding or that perhaps it deprived students of living complete experiences. This is not to mention the large universities or academies that refused to offer virtual programs, maybe leaving no choice, and forcing students to take their programs traditionally. However, today, taking classes online is becoming more and more normalized. In fact, according to Babson Survey Research Group, 7.1 million university students in the United States take at least one course virtually. Unfortunately, the same research also states that approximately 50% of students show some disinterest or drop out in the first two weeks; however, this is only due to adaptation, and students become interested and engaged again over time.

We need to understand that virtual education, more than a growing trend, is an excellent opportunity to transform our society and change the future. Nelson Mandela correctly stated: “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.”  In addition, if we add the facilitating tools that virtuality provides us; we can affirm that we are privileged.

Now, the great challenge for virtual education to become not only a growing trend but a permanent reality is essential to expand the idea of the great privilege that this educational method is. In the same way, every opportunity represents a challenge, and an effort.

To be successful in virtual education, experts agree on the following recommendations:

  • Order and discipline as a priority.

Discipline always beats talent and intelligence. If there is order, there is progress, and if there is progress, there is success. In the complexity that virtual education can have, it is essential to understand that the possible negative points of this form of study are due to the lack of order and discipline. Establishing clear schedules, precise goals, recording progress and constant self-assessment are great allies that guarantee achievement.

  • You are not accompanied, but you are not alone either.

Virtuality crosses borders! It is a myth that those who choose to study virtually are sentenced to the sadness of loneliness. In virtual education, you can laugh, enjoy, and meet new people, both colleagues and tutors, and friends. That is not to mention that great love stories can be created while you share virtual classes. Don’t miss out!

  • Virtual education is pure freedom.

Gone are the limitations that ensured that by studying you must give up living in a small city or town, or if you studied you could not work or vice versa.  It is also important to mention that, for women dedicated to their families, a great door was opened to continue growing in their professional careers from their homes or offices. Let’s not ignore the tremendous economic ease and savings many universities give as an advantage when receiving students in the virtual modality. Virtual education is freedom in many areas!

Some trends are transient and fleeting, but this one, without a doubt, is here to stay. There are great offers, such as the one offered by Broward International University, a higher education institution focused on virtuality, with a wide range of options for students to train and change their future. For more information, visit: https://www.biu.us/
